In a similar mindset to my last TFTC (http://www.drchrisharper.co.uk/blog/5-word-appt-objectives) I have been considering how I can best lay foundations for my role as a clinical supervisor come September. In hindsight, when I was a student encountering a new supervisor it was very rare to have any meaningful interaction with a new supervisor before being thrown into a clinical situation.
So I am going to attempt to actively change that for any students I am supervising. I have set out a simple document explaining my expectations from students and what they can expect from me. I will attempt to explain this in person if time allows but if not then at least I can give students this on our first clinic together and build good relationships from there. As always I am very happy to hear any feedback from both current students and supervisors if you think any aspects could be improved further.

I really enjoyed the process of improving my morning routine when I came up with my Golden Time idea a few weeks ago (http://www.drchrisharper.co.uk/blog/golden-time). So on choosing what book to digest next I thought I would see if I could build on that further. So this week I have been listening to "The Miracle Morning" by Hal Elrod
Book review - 168 hours by Laura Vanderkam
Another week almost done, another book finished. This one is all about organising your weeks. It is called 168 hours because 24 x 7 = 168. The main premise is that if there is something that happens every week it probably is important to you. But if it isn't important then why are you allowing it to take up precious time every single week? I am extraordinarily excited to be able to announce today that next month I will be helping to present a brand new event aimed at empowering young dentists, helping to take their dentistry to the next level.
Its no secret that I am passionate about helping others to achieve their potential. That is after all the main ethos behind my blogging, so when Dr Shammi Moopen and Dr Aakash Mavani approached me asking if I would like to take this ethos and content to a live event I jumped at the chance. Together we will be hosting a 4 hour event open to all dentists but aiming specifically to provide those at the beginning of their professional journey to take simple steps to propel their career to the next level. I will be giving two presentations and demos on the day covering: 1) How to organise your days, weeks and life overall to achieve more than you ever thought possible. 2) Incorporating photography into your routine and a full run through of my digital wireless workflow. Shammi will be giving invaluable advice about how to minimise your tax bill and thus take home more of the money you earn. And Aakash will be passing on his extensive expertise about understanding associate contracts, the pitfalls to look out for, what you can negotiate etc. Attendees will get 4 hours CPD for attending but more importantly should also leave feeling they have gained both hugely valuable knowledge and all the tools they need to confidently take the next steps to achieve their full potential much quicker then they otherwise would. This event will be taking place on Saturday 15th July at The Happy Smile Company in Watford. I would be thrilled if you wanted to join me there. Places are limited and will have to be first come first served so please click here to reserve your place: www.empoweringyoungdentists.co.uk I would also LOVE it if you could have a look at the 3 adverts above, decide which is your favourite and share that one. It could be on your timeline, in a group, or just sending an email to some friends who you think may be interested in the course. See you on 15th July. |
