Following on from the positive response to the post about the steam cleaner I use almost daily for cleaning crowns etc I thought I would make just one thread to collect all the gadgets or other cheap items I love. Feel free to mention any others you have found that you think should be added to this list. A few are from dental suppliers but not surprisingly many are not seeing as anything "dental" automatically seems to cost 10x what it would cost elsewhere!
1) Demo Model which can be bought for less than £50 as the base model but can then be added to to create a model that completely suits your needs. http://bit.ly/PPDemoModel 2) Swanson thickness gauge for measuring crowns and burs etc. https://amzn.to/2I18u5P 3) Steam cleaner https://amzn.to/2vEVK1U 4) Composite Heater. Yes my composite heater really did only cost me £30. https://amzn.to/2HrlO6b 5) Photo Mirror heating blanket https://amzn.to/2HtBotS 6) Organiser boxes http://amzn.to/2qjQWLb 7) Flashair SD card https://amzn.to/2HNtSxB See here for more info: http://www.drchrisharper.co.uk/blog/flashair-app 8) Photo cube for taking fancy shots of lab work https://amzn.to/2HpXJgl 9) Teflon. Dentistry is great for your back.
Oh hang on, that's wrong isn't it? Dentistry is awful for your back. Studies show that 70-90% of dentists report some kind of back pain. Even before qualifying I was having such significant back problems that I was seeing an osteopath once a month and I have even had lumbar X-Rays to make certain there isn't a physical abnormality. This meant that when I decided to take out income protection insurance, any problems arising from the vertebral column are excluded from any payouts. Just a quick entry to introduce a cheap gadget I bought last year, my mini steam cleaner.
This has so many uses. The main reason I bought it was to give the fit surface of crowns a quick blast after trying them in before going on to cement them in place. I believe this should mean the crown should be less contaminated and therefore allowing the cement to be more reliable and consistent. Over time however I have found various other uses. It is great for giving really filthy dentures a quick spruce up. It can quickly remove bond from rubber dam clamps. Here is a little video of it helping to clean up a wax knife. It is very satisfying. There are lots of different models available. I went for this one here: https://amzn.to/2qWFx2t |
