How to create a custom demo model.

I love finding different ways of explaining hings to patients. I have had various little models before but always struggled to find one that had all the restorations I wanted on it with teeth prepared how I would and restored how my technician would restore them. So to tick all those boxes I decided to create my own model. I bought the base model from premium plus late last year and prepared different teeth for various types of restoration and got my technician (Ben Ede at Stable ceramics) to restore them for me. I use it every day to explain to pts the different options available and I find it both invaluable in helping to explain your proposed treatment but also to explain the more cosmetic private options that NHS pts may want to consider and quite a few times I have had pts choose a more expensive option than I expected because of the model.

Now I have recently added the LR23 Emax bridge so that it can be compared against the RRB on the other side and today the last thing I did before going on holiday was add the LR6 composite and LL6 amalgam. They both need some slight refinements/polishing after I get back but I didn't want them to be too perfect with the old saying of "underpromise but over deliver" in mind. The strange thing was that I found the carving much harder to do on the model than it is day to day inside a pts mouth with all the other challenges that brings!

I would say that this is really worth doing to help show pts the different restorative options available.

Excellent idea, dr Harper
Can I ask if I can apply the same concept in my practice?
It's such a Brilliant way of communicating with patients

Hi,
Of course. All you need to do is purchase your model and work out what you want on the model and start prepping. I got my base model from premium plus.
